Candle-lit trail event set at Lake Carlos State Park
A candle-lit trail event is set for Saturday, February 12 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Lake Carlos State Park near Alexandria.
The family-friendly event provides an opportunity to walk, hike, ski or snowshoe on trails illuminated by candles. Park visitors can then warm up around a fire and have a hot drink.
A limited number of snowshoes may be rented for $6 per pair.
Several trails are flat and easy so that children and beginners can participate.
There is no charge for the candle-lit ski event, but a vehicle permit is required to enter Minnesota state parks. Vehicle permits are $5 for a one-day permit or $25 for a year-round permit. They can be purchased at the park.
Skiers age 16 and older need a Minnesota ski pass. Daily passes are $6 and can be purchased at the park office the night of the event, online at mndnr.gov or from any of Minnesota's nearly 1,800 electronic license system vendors.
In case of bad weather, the event may be changed or canceled. For weather updates, directions to the park or information about ski rental, call (320) 852-7200 or visit the park's web page at mndnr.gov.
