Members of the community (parents, grandparents, families, friends, etc.) who have been touched by the death of a child at any age, from any cause, are invited to attend a special candlelight remembrance service on Sunday, December 9.

The 10th annual service will be held at 6:30 p.m. at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, 221 7th Avenue West, Alexandria. Families may bring special mementos or framed photographs to display in the back of the church beginning at 6 p.m.

The service will include live vocal performances, poetry, live harp music and the individual lighting of remembrance candles. A nursery will be staffed with babysitters and offered free of charge for families with babies or small children.

The candles will remain lit from 7 to 8 p.m., in accordance with The Compassionate Friends (TCF) Worldwide Candle Lighting. Following the service, while candles remain lit, people can gather for refreshments and fellowship.

All are welcome, regardless if their loss is recent, or if it has been 40 years.

Globally, tens of thousands of bereaved families around the world are expected to participate in this annual event on Sunday, December 9 when they light their candles from 7 to 8 pm. As the candles are lit across the globe, from one time zone to the next, a wave of light is created that encircles the globe. This event is believed to be the world's largest mass candle lighting.
