Calvary Lutheran Church to explore the topic of ‘Giving It Up’ during Lent
One Lenten tradition is giving up something like chocolate, meat or ice cream, but Calvary Lutheran Church in Alexandria is flipping that notion on its head.
Each Wednesday from now through April 9, the church will host Lenten services to explore how God “gives up on” all those things that seem to have a hold on people.
The sessions will focus on how God has given up on things like guilt and shame, people’s tendencies to seek control and cling to expectations, desire for superiority, constant need for enemies and never-ending quests to be significant.
All are welcome to Lenten worship each Wednesday at 12:15 and 7 p.m., with meals at 11 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.
Following are the scheduled topics:
March 19: Giving Up on Guilt and Shame
March 26: Giving Up on Superiority.
April 2: Giving Up on Expectations and Control.
April 9: Giving Up on Significance.
