Broadway update: Work to begin on new traffic signal poles

Here's an update on Alexandria's Broadway reconstruction project, as provided by City Engineer Tim Schoonhoven on May 27:

The contractor will continue with the installation of watermain, sanitary sewer main and storm sewer main this week. Depending on progress, the contractor may begin the installation of water services to the individual businesses this week.  Also this week, work will begin on the installation the footings for the new traffic signal poles at Fifth Avenue.  The contractor is still working in the basements of several businesses, getting ready to make the switch over to the new water services.

Additional sidewalk signage was installed last week.  The signage was designed per state guidelines called TPAR, which stands for Temporary Pedestrian Access Routes.  The signage is being placed per a very specific plan but minor changes can be made, and are being made per the request of the downtown businesses.  We will continue to take suggestions and make adjustments throughout the project to make the signage specifically fit our project.
