Broadway update: New watermain complete in phase one

Here is an update about the Alexandria's Broadway reconstruction work, as provided by City Engineer Tim Schoonhoven on May 30:

The contractor made good progress.  It  has now completed the installation of the new watermain in phase one and is now working on the remaining portion of the sanitary sewer and storm sewer mains.  The sanitary sewer has now been extended from the north end of the project to approximately Fifth Avenue.  The storm sewer main has now been extended to Fourth Avenue.  This week (June2-7) the contractor will work to complete the extension of the sewer and storm sewer mains and will be working on extending services to the individual businesses.  There are three separate backhoe crews working now in Broadway.  While many stores are making good use of their rear entrances, the sidewalks remain open to the front doors of all stores.
