Brandon-Evansville softball sweeps CGB
The Brandon-Evansville softball team swept a doubleheader against CGB last Thursday night, winning 7-6 in game two after taking a 9-0 game in the opener.
Brandon-Evansville had to battle back in the nightcap after trailing 3-0 in the first inning. The Chargers overcame five errors in that game behind a strong offensive performance.
Freshman Michelle Lund led the way with a big two-RBI double in the bottom of the fourth with two outs after she came in to pinch hit. Then in the fifth inning with the bases loaded, freshman Shyanna Behrens hit a ball to center field that tied the game before fellow freshman Kennedy Lund got the game winner on a hard-hit line drive. Both games were five-inning contests.
“The freshmen really came through big for us tonight,” head coach Kasi Huschle said. “I’m very proud of the way the girls played tonight. It was great to see the girls go out there and make things happen late in the game. That is what we have been working toward, and it’s great to see it happening at this point in the season.”
Things came a little easier in the first game for Brandon-Evansville. Carrigan Okerlund had two hits, two runs, two stolen bases and three RBIs. Megan Kokett added two hits and two runs. Lizzy Friedrich went 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI and Morgan Stelzer went 2-for-3 with two runs.
Kinsley Randt got the win in both games. She went all five innings in game one, allowing just one hit and two walks, while striking out eight.
