The Brandon-Evansville girls moved to 9-3 in the Little Eight Conference with a convincing win over Hillcrest Lutheran Academy last Thursday night that was followed by a 54-45 loss to Ashby on Friday.

The Chargers got 24 points and 11 rebounds from Emma Friedrich against the Arrows, but she was the only player in double figures for her team. Ashby’s Cassandra Jordan had 18 and Abbi Ras added 11 to help the Arrows to the win.

“They played really well,” Brandon-Evansville head coach Dick Simpson said. “We didn’t shoot very well. We were ahead at the half by one, but it was back and forth until late. We just had a couple turnovers at the wrong time and they made shots. Ashby played better than we did.”

The Chargers hit just 3-of-20 shots from beyond the arc after they made a school record 12 threes the last time these two teams played.

“I think they were geared up to stop that,” Simpson said. “We had shots and just didn’t make them.”

The Chargers made more of those looks in a 67-39 win over Hillcrest the night before. They got up 23-10 in the first half and led 39-16 at the break.

Friedrich had 16 points and 13 rebounds to lead the way. Carrigan Okerlund added 12 points and Megan Kokett finished with 11. Kelsey Nersten had 13 points for Hillcrest and Emma Royce added 10.

The Chargers dominated the Comets on the glass, outrebounding them 44-21. Twenty of those rebounds were on the offensive end.

The 9-3 record in the league tied them with Battle Lake for second in the LEC. Parkers Prairie won the league title at 11-1.
