Boys track sixth at True Team track
The Alexandria boys’ track and field team racked up 661 points at the Section 8AA True Team meet in Buffalo on Friday to take sixth in the nine-team field.
The true team meet measures the depth of every program by scoring every athlete’s finish. Brainerd proved to have the deepest squad in 8AAA as the Warriors won the meet with 838.5 points.
Alexandria had three first-place finishes that led the way for the Cardinals. Mitch Peck continued his strong season with a win in the 300 hurdles in a time of 40.48 seconds. He also set a personal-best mark in the triple jump with a leap of 36-04.50.
The other two top finishes for the Cardinals came in the field events. Colin Guetter won the discus with a toss of 158-11 and Aaron Steidl won the shot put after a throw of 49-4. Logan Steidl was also not far behind in the shot put with a third-place finish (45-09), while Brett Ludwig had a seventh-place finish in the discus (127-08).
Alexandria had a total of eight personal bests at the meet as the Cardinals continue to make strides throughout the season. They were scheduled to host the Alexandria triangular last night, Tuesday.
See Friday’s issue of the Echo Press for stories from that meet.
