Alexandria’s Lukas Bigger was within six shots of the leader after day one but fell back in the pack a little bit after an 82 on Wednesday.

Bigger shot 39, 43 in the second round and said he had a hard time hitting fairways off the tee. That left him scrambling to try and make par on some holes on a day when things just were not clicking like they were on Tuesday.

“I started out with a birdie and then started hitting my driver bad,” Bigger said. “I think I only hit five fairways and had too many putts as well. I just got kind of unlucky out there with plugged bunkers and against trees and whatnot. It just didn’t go my way today like it did yesterday.”

Bigger said he was hitting those fairways in the first round on Tuesday and was able to hit greens in regulation as a result. He shot a 34 on his front nine. His chipping and putting was also working for him, which left him feeling good about things heading into day two.

“I thought I was going to play pretty well,” Bigger said. “I had some confidence after scoring pretty well yesterday. Thought it would have gone a lot better than it did, but that’s the way it goes.”

It didn’t take away from another strong season for the junior. Bigger heads into the offseason hoping to keep improving in order to get back here again next season.

“Just practice a lot over the summer,” he said. “Get the team together and play Greystone quite a bit because that’s where we’re going to have sections. Hopefully our team can make it next year.”
