Boys hockey wins finale
The Alexandria boys’ hockey team wrapped up the regular season schedule with a 5-2 victory over Willmar at home on Friday.
The defense held Willmar to only two goals in the game, something the team has been able to do for most of the season. Goaltender Sam Goetsch stopped 23 of Willmar’s 25 shots on goal.
“The Cardinals limited Willmar to two goals with stingy team defense again; a season long trademark of this team,” head coach Ian Resch said.
The Cardinals finished the regular season with an overall record of 17-5-2. Alexandria wound up in second in the Central Lakes Conference, only a game behind first place Brainerd.
The Section 6A tournament begins this week with the second-seeded Cardinals playing Prairie Centre Tuesday, yesterday, at the RCC. The winner will move on to play Fergus Falls or St. Cloud Apollo on Saturday at the MAC in St. Cloud.
