Boys hockey: Cards welcome in Prairie Centre for 6A opener tonight

The Alexandria boys’ hockey team will open up the Section 6A playoffs tonight at the Runestone Community Center against seventh-seeded Prairie Centre Area at 7 p.m.

The Cardinals earned the second seed in the tournament after going through the regular season with a 16-5-3 record. They finished 12-2-1 in the Central Lakes Conference, good for second place in the league.

Prairie Centre Area got to this game by handling Wadena-Deer Creek 8-2 in the tournament opener on Saturday. The winner of this game will move on to play in the section semifinals this Saturday at 5:30 p.m. at the MAC in St. Cloud. The section title game is scheduled for February 27 at 7 p.m. back at the MAC.

Alexandria met up with Prairie Centre Area once this season when the Cardinals took a 3-2 game against the North Stars (16-10) on January 3.
