The Osakis boys lost a couple tough games last week, one in the closing seconds and another that got away from them against a 19-2 Upsala team.

The Silverstreaks couldn’t keep up against the fifth-ranked Cardinals on the road last Friday night as they fell 88-46. Osakis shot 45 percent, but the Cardinals were hitting from all over the court. That carried them to a 46-15 lead by the break.

“Our goal coming in was to make them beat us from the three-point line,” Osakis head coach Matt Hoelscher said. “And they did. They shot 50 percent from three at the half. We wanted to limit them from their transition game and prevent them from getting into the paint, and we did for a while.”

Drew Fearing had a team-high 10 points for Osakis. Luke Wolbeck added nine and Lane Berberich chipped in eight as the Silverstreaks fell to 5-15 and 1-9 in the Prairie Conference.

“There is a reason they are fifth in the state,” Hoelscher said of Upsala. “They are athletic. They shoot well and are quicker than most teams. We handled their pressure better than I thought we would. We just ran into them on a night that they couldn’t miss. That’s basketball.”

The Silverstreaks had three games scheduled for this week. They were at St. John’s Prep last night, Tuesday, before welcoming in Browerville on Thursday. Osakis will then travel to Parkers Prairie on Saturday for a 7:30 p.m. tip.
