After finishing the regular season on a four-game losing streak, the Minnewaska Laker boys rebounded to earn a 53-51 victory over New London-Spicer in the opening round of the Section 6AA-South basketball tournament Thursday.

The Lakers had suffered a pair of setbacks to the Wildcats during the regular season by scores of 77-56 and 66-47, but this time Minnewaska was able to keep the game close, enabling them to eke out the victory.

It was Trent Noetzelman who secured the win as he stepped to the free throw line with 12.5 seconds remaining, hitting both to give the Lakers the two-point victory. Noetzelman scored six of Minnewaska's final eight points of the game.

New London-Spicer had the last opportunity to pick up the win as Joey Dreier was fouled on a steal attempt with 0.01 seconds remaining, but missed the front end of a one-and-one.

Austin Ostrander led the Lakers with 12 points, while Blake Johnsrud added 11 and Noetzelman 10. Noetzelman and Ostrander both had seven rebounds, while Johnsrud had five assists and three steals.
