The Brandon-Evansville boys' basketball team could not overcome a 46 percent shooting night by Hillcrest in a 67-45 loss in the Section 6A tournament last Thursday night.

The Chargers took a 1-0 lead on a Tyson Meissner free throw early on. That would be the last time they led as the Comets went on a 7-0 run and never looked back.

Jared Schultz was the catalyst of the Hillcrest offense. He finished with 20 points, 15 coming in the opening half.

Sean Henneman was the only Chargers' player in double figures. He finished with 12, while Meissner added nine and Phil Krueger had eight.

Brandon-Evansville knew it would have to play flawless against the second-seeded Comets. Hillcrest did not allow the Chargers to do that, forcing 23 turnovers and holding them to 32 percent shooting.

Brandon-Evansville finished the season with a 7-20 record. The Chargers were 6-6 in the Little Eight Conference. They return everyone but Adam Wagner from this year's team.

"Hillcrest's defense made us work for every point tonight," head coach John Holsten said. "We are proud of our kids for the way they competed on each possession. Unfortunately, we have to say goodbye to our senior Adam Wagner. He has been an outstanding role model in the basketball program. We are grateful to him for all his contributions, and we'll miss his leadership."
