Boys basketball: Chargers fall big at Breckenridge

The Brandon-Evansville boys fell to 3-19 on the season as they went on the road and got beat 63-24 against Breckenridge (10-13).

The Chargers shot just 22 percent from the field (11-49) and had 19 turnovers. They fell behind 26-6 and were never allowed back in the game.

“We were down 5-4 and then before you knew it it was 26-6,” Chargers head coach John Holsten said. “We just didn’t have an answer for it.

Skyler Quinn led Brandon-Evansville with eight points. Brandon Christianson had seven points and four rebounds, while Nate Lorenz had a game-high 13 points for Breckenridge, all in the first half. Eighth grader Taylor Bitzan had two points, two rebounds and two steals, but drew the praise of his head coach.

“He did a good job of handling the pressure,” Holsten said of Bitzan. “He’s not scoring much, but I think that might have been one of his better games because they were on him pretty hard. He doesn’t complain. He doesn’t whine. He just goes about his business and tries as hard as he can. He’s a perfect teammate.”
