Boys' basketball: Ashby falls to Hillcrest, tops Rothsay
The Ashby boys dropped just their fourth game of the season, falling to Hillcrest 62-38 Friday night.
"We knew going into this game that it was an important one for us as a team and that Hillcrest has had a nice win streak going," said Arrow head coach Jeremy Knick. "We dug ourselves a hole in the first half and we just couldn't recover mentally, and things just spiraled from there."
The Arrows trailed 26-16 at the half as Ashby shot just 26 percent on the night.
"That won't get the job done any night," said Knick. "Hopefully, we can regroup and get focused to finish up our tough schedule strong."
Tanner Langlie and Blake Ohren each had eight points, while Morgan Wing and Jeff Berglund had seven apiece. The loss was also the second in the Little Eight Conference for the Arrows.
The Ashby boys' basketball team ran past Rothsay in an 81-43 game on Parents' Night this past Tuesday.
The Arrows put four players in double figures, with Blake Ohren leading the way. He finished with 21 points and 11 rebounds. Dylan Barry added 16 points, while Tanner Langlie and Allard LaRue each had 12. The 12 points for Langlie was enough to help him reach the 1,000-point mark for his career.
"I first want to congratulate Tanner on reaching this milestone," head coach Jeremy Knick said. "He has been very dedicated and committed these past four years and deserves any accolades that he receives. He has been a true leader this season, and it has been an absolute pleasure and honor to be his coach."
He was part of a hot night offensively for the Arrows. Ashby shot 56 percent as a team (33-58) and held Rothsay to just 37 percent (17-45).
"The guys played intense the whole game, and I was really pleased with the way we pushed the ball up the floor. J.P. Moe and Blake Ohren did a nice job keeping the tempo up and Dylan Barry and Allard LaRue had really good games defensively, which created some fast break opportunities."
The Arrows improved to 16-4 with the win and 8-2 in the Little Eight Conference. They will welcome in a 14-5 Battle Lake team that shares the same 8-2 LEC record with them tonight, Friday, for a 7 p.m. tip.
