Bouressa, Long are All-Americans
Two former area wrestlers in Alexandria's Tom Bouressa and West Central Area's Jake Long earned Division III All-American honors with Concordia-Moorhead in March.
Both guys helped the Cobbers to a 13th-place finish with good showings at the national championships in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Bouressa took sixth at 285 pounds in his senior season, while Long was fifth at 149 pounds as a junior.
Bouressa earned his second All-American honor at the national tournament and became just the fourth wrestler in Cobbers history to earn more than one in his career. The former Cardinal standout went 3-3 at the championships and went 26-7 on the season. His 26 wins ties a career high for the most wins in a season. Bouressa wrapped up his college wrestling career with a 71-29 record overall.
Long earned fifth-place at the national championships by going 4-2 over the two-day event. The Hoffman native beat Jorge Lopez of Williams College 6-2 in the fifth-place match. Long upped his season record to 21-10 in the process. It's the first time in his career that he won 20 matches in a single season. That gives him 48 wins during his time with the Cobbers.
Concordia finished in the top 15 at nationals for the fourth straight year as a team. The Cobbers had 21.5 team points. Wartburg College in Iowa won its third straight team title with 103 points.
