Blues singer Johnny Rawls to perform in Forada

Johnny Rawls, Blues Music Award-winning singer, will perform on Thursday, December 19 at 8 p.m. at the Forada Bar and Grill.

In his newest CD, Remembering O.V., Rawls pays tribute to his late friend and mentor, O.V. Wright. Blues Hall of Fame singer Otis Clay is a special guest on the album, which features nine songs associated with Wright and an original cut, Blaze of Glory.

Backing Rawls once again is the Catfood Records house band, The Rays: Dan Ferguson, keyboards; Richy Puga, drums and percussion; Bob Trenchard, bass; Johnny McGhee, guitar; Andy Roman, sax; Mike Middleton, trumpet; and Robert Claiborne, trombone. Background vocals are provided by The Iveys (Arlen, Jessica and Jillian).

Rawls’ 2012 album, Soul Survivor, earned him two Blues Music Award nominations and followed Memphis Still Got Soul, which received three.

He has been nominated numerous times in both the Soul Blues Male Artist and Soul Blues Album categories by The Blues Foundation. His album Ace of Spades won Soul Blues Album of the Year at the 2010 Blues Music Awards.
