Blue Anchors finish season with win but league's worst record
The Alexandria Blue Anchors wrapped up the 2014 season on Sunday afternoon with a 9-5 win over Rochester at Knute Nelson Ballpark.
The Anchors got on the board first with a solo home run by Ricky Sanchez. Rochester responded with a two-RBI double by Ryne Roper in the top of the fourth inning to make it 2-1 Honkers.
Alexandria broke the game wide open in the bottom of the fourth. Five consecutive hits scored three runs, and then a grand slam by Sanchez made it 8-2 Anchors.
Rochester bounced back in the top of the fifth, scoring three on a Parker Guinn sacrifice fly and a two-RBI single from Jordan Smith that made it an 8-5 game.
The offense continued to produce for Alexandria in the next half inning as Lukas Hermanson made it 9-5 Anchors on an RBI double. Ryan Froom came in for the Anchors in the seventh and came through with a three inning save to shut the door on the win and the season for Alexandria.
The Blue Anchors finished with the worst record in the NWL this summer after going 22-50 overall. Thunder Bay was the closest team behind them with a 23-49 record.
