Blue Anchors fall in extras
The Alexandria Blue Anchors (6-14 second half) dropped their first game back from the All-Star break in a 6-5 loss to Mankato (12-8 second half) on Thursday night in 11 innings.
The MoonDogs struck with one swing of bat in that 11th inning as Eric Schenck-Joblinske hit a solo home run on a 0-1 count. The Blue Anchors threatened in the bottom of the inning by loading the bases with one out. That brought Kris Goodman to the plate, who struck out swinging before Craig Nennig lined out to the shortstop to end the game.
Goodman and Jeremy Hyde each had two hits to lead the Alexandria offense. Goodman connected for his seventh home run of the season, while Rickey Sanchez also went deep for his fourth home run. Alexandria left nine men on base, while the MoonDogs stranded 10 runners but did enough to pick up the win.
These two teams will be back in action tonight, Friday, at Knute Nelson Ballpark with a 7:05 first pitch.
