Blue Anchors baseball: Alex drops three of four over weekend

The Blue Anchors lost three of the four games they played over the weekend as they started their final homestand of the season.

Alexandria fell 12-1 to Waterloo on Sunday evening. The Blue Anchors also lost a game earlier Sunday to Willmar and split a two-game series on Friday and Saturday in Duluth.

WATERLOO 12,

BLUE ANCHORS 1

Both the Blue Anchors' offense and pitching did not produce in the 12-1 loss to Waterloo on Sunday.

The Blue Anchors pitching staff did not display much command in the game, walking a combined 14 batters. Starting pitcher Kevin Hatcher threw seven walks over four innings while picking up the loss and seven earned runs.

Ryan Blanchard drove in the team's only RBI of the game. Albert Baur was 2-for-4 in the game with a run scored and a double.

WILLMAR 6,

BLUE ANCHORS 1

The Blue Anchors bats went cold against Willmar on Sunday afternoon, with Kris Goodman picking up the team's only hit with an RBI double in the ninth inning.

Willmar starting pitcher An-drew Woeck held the Blue Anchors hitless until Goodman's double with two outs in the ninth inning drove in Georgie Salem.

Scott Sanderson was given the loss for the Blue Anchors after pitching 4 2/3 innings and giving up four earned runs on eight hits. Taylor Simpson threw 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief out of the bullpen. Aaron Gretz also pitched two innings in relief, allowing two unearned runs.

DULUTH 3

The Blue Anchors were able to hold on to a three run lead to win a Saturday evening game in Duluth.

Salem was 2-for-4 in the game with a homerun, two runs scored and an RBI. Baur, Tim Cusick and Dalton Leuschke each also drove in runs against the Duluth Huskies.

Spencer Koopmans picked up the win for the Blue Anchors, going 5 2/3 innings and giving up three earned runs.

Andy Johnson came out of the bullpen and pitched 2 1/3 innings of scoreless relief. Brandon Johnson also picked up the save with two strikeouts.

DULUTH 8,

BLUE ACHORS 7

The Blue Anchors lost an 8-7 game on Friday night in Duluth after allowing a walk off single in the bottom of the ninth inning.

Salem led the Blue Anchors' offense on Friday, going 3-for-5 with two RBIs. Kris Goodman also picked up two RBIs with a double and a run scored in the game.

Taylor Simpson picked up the loss in the game after allowing an RBI single in the bottom of the ninth inning.
