Blizzard top TC in overtime
The Alexandria Blizzard won a wild game in its last contest before the Christmas break last Friday by beating Twin City 8-7 in overtime.
Aammir Freese provided the game winner four minutes into the extra session, and Joe Anderson finished with four points and a hat trick for the Blizzard. Anderson tied the game with two third-period goals after scoring the first goal of the night in the opening frame.
Twin City rebounded from a Tyler Sworsky goal that made it 2-1 Alexandria after one. The Steel took a 6-3 lead into the third after erupting for five goals in the middle frame. The Blizzard’s responded with a four-goal third period that tied things at seven apiece.
Garrett Skinner and Mick Dhein added goals for Alexandria, while Sworsky added his second goal of the night 7:48 into the final frame to get his team within two. He finished with three points overall, and Ian Ecklund had three assists.
Alexandria wrapped up the first half of the season in third place at 18-9 with 36 points. North Iowa is first in the West Division with 50 points and a 25-1 record, and Granite City is second at 22-7 with 44 points.
