Blizzard split weekend series
The Alexandria Blizzard split its two games over the weekend with a 5-1 win over Minnesota on Saturday after falling 3-2 to Twin City on Friday.
The Blizzard used a three-goal third period to open things up against the Flying Aces on Saturday. Ethan Luck, Garrett Skinner and Joe Anderson all scored in the frame as Alexandria took a 3-1 lead. Tom Schmidt and Mick Dhein added goals in the third and Bo Gronseth finished with four assists on the night. Evan Bisek got the win in net with 28 saves.
The Blizzard threw 43 shots at the net against Twin City the night before but the Steel’s Jackson Germaine was solid in goal. He turned aside 41 of those shots as Twin City earned a 3-2 win after building a 3-0 lead through two periods. Anderson and Ian Ecklund answered with second-period goals, but Alexandria couldn’t find the equalizer in the third period.
The Blizzard (17-9, 34 points) is in third place in the West Division behind North Iowa (46 points) and Granite City (44 points). Alexandria has one more game before the Christmas break. That comes tonight, Friday, as the Blizzard go on the road to face Twin City at 7:30.
