Blizzard hockey: Alexandria adds two wins
The Alexandria Blizzard took care of business against two teams below it in the division standings with a 4-1 win over Twin City and a 7-1 win over Minnesota this past weekend.
The Blizzard used a three-goal second period to open up a comfortable lead against Twin City on Sunday afternoon. Ricky Seidel was the catalyst as he scored the opening goal in the first period and the final goal in the third. Tanner Duffney and Sergey Erileev added goals in the third as well to give Alexandria its 20th win of the season.
Chase Wilson was strong in net for the Blizzard all weekend. He got two wins by stopping 26 of 27 shots in both games. That upped his record to 10-4-1 in the 15 games he has started.
The Flying Aces never had much of a chance after the Blizzard stormed out of the gates with four goals in the first period on Friday night. Sean Casey, Karson Kuntz, Richie Brown and Garrett Skinner each lit the lamp to all but end things early. Cody Bartkowicz, Nate Mettenburg and Seidel each added goals over the final two periods to put the game away.
Alexandria moved within six points of Granite City with the two wins. The Lumberjacks (47 points) are seven points behind North Iowa (54) at the top of the West Division.
Alexandria will be back at home this Friday when it welcomes in Minnesota for a 7 p.m. drop of the puck at the Runestone Community Center. The Blizzard will wrap up the weekend at Breezy Point on Saturday.
