Blizzard hockey: Alex scores 10 goals to run past Minnesota

The Alexandria Blizzard used four goals in the first period to jump out to an early lead and never look back in a 10-5 win over the Minnesota Flying Aces on Sunday afternoon.

The Blizzard outshot Minnesota 38-28 and scored on two of its three power play opportunities. Garrett Skinner had four assists and the goals for Alexandria came from 10 different players. Ian Ecklund, Joe Anderson, Tyler Sowrsky, Tom Schmidt, Mick Dhein, Gavin Mindt, Aammir Freese, Tanner Skgig, Nate Mettenburg and Drake Hunter all lit the lamp. Danny Pelzer added three assists and Schmidt also had three points after adding two assists to his goal.

Kyle Miller got the win in net for Alexandria with 23 saves and five goals allowed.

With the win, the Blizzard remained four points back of Granite City for the second seed in the West Division. Alexandria has four games left on the regular-season schedule, including a make-up game of Friday's contest against Breezy Point that was postponed because of weather.
