Blizzard fall to Granite City on New Year's Eve

The Alexandria Blizzard had a 3-2 lead after the first period on Tuesday night before Granite City erupted for six goals over the final two frames to win 8-3 at the Runestone Community Center.

Aaron Ryback, Bo Gronseth and Drake Hunter all scored in the first period to help the Blizzard to the early lead. The depth of the Lumberjacks eventually took over as eight different players scored their eight goals.

Aidan Verbeke, Taylor Brown, Mitchell Gwost and Drew Otto all had three points apiece for Granite City. That was plenty for Scott Murray as he used 27 saves to secure the win.

Tanner Elmore took the loss in net for Alexandria. He gave up all eight goals but got peppered  with 49 shots. Mitch Krafcheck and Aammir Freese each had two assists for the Blizzard, as well.
