It was the latest in a long line of good games between these two teams this season. The Lumberjacks are in second place in the West Division, and they held a 1-0 lead after one period when David Kenney converted on a power play.

The second period belonged to the Blizzard. Jody Randall got his team going with a goal at 6:14 before Drake Hunter gave Alexandria the lead almost 10 minutes later. Mick Dhein then put the finishing touches on that period with a goal 19 seconds later that gave the Blizzard all the momentum.

Aidan Verbeke was able to get one back for Granite City at 8:07 in the third, but Joe Anderson closed things out with an open-net goal with four seconds left in the game.

Alexandria held a 31-28 shot advantage as Kyle Miller earned the win in net for the Blizzard. He stopped 26 shots, while Austin Wilson took the loss for the Lumberjacks.

The win now has the Blizzard within eight points of Granite City for that second spot in the West Division playoff picture. Alexandria will try to gain more ground this weekend with two more division games. The Blizzard welcome in Twin City tonight, Friday, for a 7:30 game before going to Breezy Point on Saturday for a 1 p.m. drop of the puck.
