Big buck beds in back yard

Alexandria’s Rhonda Boesen and her husband, Mike, were greeted by an unexpected visitor on December 8, 2013 when they noticed this big buck sleeping in their back yard.

“We woke up one morning and looked out the window and it was sleeping, not very far away,” Rhonda said. “It was just right out the back door of my garage.”

Making matters a little more surprising is the fact that they live right in town. The Boesens are on Cranberry Lane near Discovery Middle School. There is tree cover in that area and deer that use those woods, but to see a mature buck bedded down out in the open like this was a pleasant surprise for the couple.

“We both stood in the back of the bedroom just staring at it,” she said. “It was sitting around out there for an hour.”

The buck was close enough for Rhonda to take this photo with her camera. At first, she thought the deer had maybe been hit by a car and was likely injured. It wasn’t. The big buck eventually got to its feet before moving on.
