The "Great Alexandria Bike Race" last weekend was blessed with sunshine and warm weather on Saturday. Sponsored by The Alexandria Bike and Ski Club, the event drew 67 citizen racers and 36 USA-Cycling licensed bikers who raced a 36-mile course. The event went on despite rain on Sunday. Champlin native Dave Hoglund won the citizens race while Melinda Silbernik took home the top women's honor. Other big winners included Joseph Lewis (categories 1, 2 and 3) with a combined road/circuit time of 5:33:19; Mariusz Czarnomski (category 4) with 319 points; Brent Binkowski (master's) with 313 points; and Andrea Potyondy-Smith (women's).
