Betty Rydell to perform free concert on Thursday
Betty Rydell will perform at the Red Willow Arts Coalition free concert on Thursday, May 22 at 7 p.m. on the lawn at the Douglas County Courthouse in Alexandria.
An award-winning entertainer, Rydell is a member of the Minnesota Country and Rock Hall of Fame and the National Traditional Country Music Association Hall of Fame. She has been honored as both Female Entertainer and Vocalist of the Year in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas.
For many years, Rydell has performed at clubs, fairs, festivals and conventions throughout the U.S., Canada, Europe and Central America.
Well-versed in a variety of instruments, Rydell has performed with Barbara Mandrell, Charlie Pride, Conway Twitty, Ernest Tubb, Tex Ritter, Carl Perkins, Marvin Rainwater, LeRoy Van Dyke and more.
She also sings a variety of styles, including country, bluegrass, gospel and pop, and she is an accomplished yodeler.
Rydell’s husband, Ed, has been performing with her for several years. Ed does standup comedy, and both do several comedy skits and songs, including the Fish Song, Winter Texan Tribute, The Funeral Song and I’m Gonna Wear the Pants.
Rydell most enjoys performing before a live audience. She strives to do more than just sing songs to the audience. Her goal is to entertain, to include the audience, to help them forget their problems and enjoy themselves.
