Alexandria has struggled through a tough stretch recently, dropping three straight before edging the Willmar Stingers Monday night.

The Beetles were 12-21 after Monday night's game.

BEETLES 5, WILLMAR 4

Tanner Vavra and Ben Moore slapped back-to-back singles in the eighth to put the tying and winning runs on the board for the Beetles Monday night.

Willmar had leads of 1-0 and 4-3, but Alexandria battled back both times to give reliever Alex Guilford his third win of the season.

Matt Lowenstein made his Beetles' debut in the game, singling in the bottom of the first, reaching third on a double by Vavra and was driven home on an RBI ground ball by Jimmy Pickens. Vavra also scored as Jimmy Pickens rapped an infield single.

Alexandria added a solo run in the fifth on a sacrifice fly by Moore to give the Beetles a 3-1 lead. That lead held up until the top of the seventh when the Stingers scored three off reliever Mitchell Babb.

It was then that Alexandria made its last surge as Josh Guerra walked to open the eighth, advancing to third on a Dylan Raper single. Lowestein then walked to load the bases for Vavra and Moore.

Anthony Bazzani cleaned up the ninth, retiring the side in order for his fifth save of the year.

WILLMAR 6, BEETLES 4

There were lots of hits, but not a lot of scoring as the Beetles succumbed to the Stingers 6-4 Sunday.

Three unearned runs proved costly in the loss, and a two-run homer in the eighth by Willmar's Dillon Haupt sealed the loss.

Vavra and Raper both reached base four times in the game as Vavra lofted a pair of singles and was hit twice by pitches. Raper had a pair of hits and two walks to reach base.

Moore, Pickens and Matt Beaty also had two hits each.

Steve Weber was saddled with the loss as he gave up four runs on seven hits.

WILLMAR 6, BEETLES 2

Alexandria was able to put two late-inning runs on the board, but couldn't counter Willmar's earlier six, falling to the Stingers 6-2.

Shawn Riesgraf took the loss in five innings of work as he gave up three runs, walking four and striking out three while giving up six hits.

Haupt blasted an opposite field solo homer for Willmar in the fourth to give them a 1-0 lead before the Stingers added a pair in the fifth on a walk and a two-run homer.

Raper finally got the Beetles on the scoreboard as he slapped an RBI single with two outs in the seventh.

Alexandria's final rally came in the ninth as Vavra hit a one-out single, stole second and scored on a double by Moore, but the Beetles were unable to make any further headway on the Stingers.

THUNDER BAY 17, BEETLES 7

The Beetles' finale against Thunder Bay Friday had no late game heroics as Alexandria fell 17-7 behind a seven run fifth frame and a game that featured 24 runs, 27 hits, 20 walks and 102 plate appearances.

Eleven Border Cats came to the plate against Alexandria hurlers, who allowed four walks and a hit batter.

Three more walks in the sixth and another three in the seventh spelled doom for the Beetles as six runs scored, leaving Alexandria on the short end of the score.

Alexandria had taken a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the first as Pickens hit an RBI grounder and Beaty singled home a runner, but Thunder Bay tied it in the top of the third.

The Beetles regained that lead with three runs in the third on a double by Moore, who moved to third on a single by Pickens, followed by RBI hits from Beaty and Ryan Padilla.

Mitchell Babb took the loss on the mound as the Beetles needed four pitchers on the night.
