Battlers dominate Ashby boys

The Battle Lakes boys’ basketball team never let Ashby believe it had a chance on Friday night as the undefeated Battlers led 56-28 at the half and won 90-55.

“Battle Lake is just a really good team,” Ashby head coach Jeremy Knick said. “There is not much else you can say about them.”

Blake Ohren and Morgan Wing were the only two players in double figures for the Arrows. Ohren finished with 25 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists. Wing added 19 points and Zach Barry finished with five. Dan Marso led Battle Lake with 23 points. Tony Ukkelberg had 15, Nick Trosdahl 13 and Tyler Ukkelberg added 10 points.

“It was unfortunate that we didn’t step on the floor mentally ready to play,” Knick said. “We have some guys that want to win and compete hard, but not everyone. Everyone has to be ready to give it their all for this team to be successful and challenge teams like Battle Lake. We didn’t challenge them. We didn’t want to bad enough. Sometimes it simply comes down to effort and belief.”

Ashby fell to 7-6 with the loss and 3-4 in the Little Eight Conference. The Battlers improved to 13-0 overall and 7-0 in LEC play.
