The Osakis baseball team had its season come to an end last Friday with a 3-1 loss to top-seeded Browerville in the Section 5A tournament.

The Silverstreaks have played the Tigers close three times now this season but all three times came up just short. The two teams were tied going into the sixth inning when Browerville scored two runs on a bases-loaded hit. That proved to be the difference as Osakis ended the season 12-9 overall.

"On paper today, we outplayed Browerville," head coach Shad Schmidt said. "We had more hits, struck out less and walked more offensively. Pitching wise, we also outplayed them. Jordan struck out nine to their four, walked one to their five, and gave up five hits to our six. Unfortunately for us today, games are not won on paper and Browerville came through."

Frederick took the tough-luck loss after giving up five hits and a walk through six innings. He gave up two earned runs and stymied Browerville hitters at times with the nine strikeouts.

"I thought Jordan pitched his best game I have ever seen him pitch," Schmidt said. "He looked really good, and he outpitched [Mitch] Heid and [Austin] Host from Browerville. No one has outpitched those guys this year, and Jordan was on top of his game today. It's just too bad we didn't get him some more runs."

Osakis got to that game against Browerville by beating Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City 5-0 in the play-in game earlier that day.

The Silverstreak broke the game open with a three-run third inning. Doug Zimmel had the big hit of that inning with a two-run single that gave him the cushion he needed on the mound.

Zimmel was in control all afternoon against ACGC. He went all seven innings, allowing just four hits and striking out four. Frederick had three hits and Grayson Fortenberry added two to help provide him with some offense.

"This was the best game we played all year," Schmidt said. "We executed on almost everything we tried to do, whether it was stealing, bunting or double plays. I believe we turned three double plays in this game. We had no errors and pitched really well."
