UPDATE: Fatal crash closes I-94 near Osakis

B-E volleyball falls to Parkers Prairie 3-2

Unforced errors led to a loss for the Brandon-Evansville volleyball team in a long five-set match against Parkers Prairie last Thursday in Evansville.

Parkers Prairie won the first set 25-19, but the Chargers rebounded to win the next two sets 25-17, 25-21.

The Chargers could not put away Parkers Prairie, as they took the fourth set 25-20 and the decisive fifth set 15-7.

Chargers head coach Kelly Olson said they had too many unforced errors to overcome Parkers Prairie in the close match.

“At times we really played well, but not consistently enough to win,” Olson said. “We are leaving opportunities on the court to finish plays, or at least to keep plays alive.”

Caroline Jansen and Emma Friedrich led the Chargers’ offense with 15 kills each. Kinsley Randt provided 33 assists.

The Chargers picked up a total of 11 aces in the match, including a team-high four from Randt. Megan Kokett led the Chargers with 24 digs in the match.

After a disappointing five-set loss, Olson said he hopes the Chargers will use the experience in their upcoming matches.

“I know we have some disappointed athletes going home tonight,” Olson said. “I hope they take this as a learning experience and grow from it and make some changes in what they are doing on the court.”

The Chargers are now 5-4-1 overall this season with a 3-1 record in the conference.

FUNDRAISER MATCH THURSDAY The Chargers are hosting a fundraiser for Brandon-Evansville seventh grader Jordan Nohre during their match this Thursday against Ashby in Evansville.

Nohre was diagnosed with leukemia last spring. The team is asking participants to wear orange, participate in activities during the match and provide small donations. All proceeds will go directly to the Nohre family.

The varsity begins play on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
