A-B-E track: Jansen, Wach lead A-B-E at state meet
The Ashby-Brandon-Evansville track and field team sent four athletes to state and finished with two on the podium to wrap up a strong season for A-B-E.
Sophomore Caroline Jansen had the top finish for her team after taking sixth in the long jump. She had a leap of 16-07, just a quarter inch off her personal best distance from the section meet.
Toby Wach represented the ABE boys with a seventh place finish in the discus. He finished on the podium with a throw of 142-04.
Junior Megan Friedrich and senior Heather Strese also competed for ABE at the meet. Friedrich just missed moving onto the finals in the 100-meter hurdles. She finished in a time of 16.45 during the prelims on Friday, taking sixth in her heat and 12th overall based on time.
Strese wrapped up her high school career with a 10th place finish in the shot put. She scratched her first throw on Saturday but regrouped for her second and third throws. Her best toss of the day was 36-06.25 as she missed making the top nine by three-quarters of an inch.
Brandi Otto of Minnewaska also competed in the shot put on Saturday. She finished 14th overall with a toss of 34-08.
Kylee Fernholz of West Central Area missed making the final in the 800-meter run. She finished in 2:26.32, good for seventh in her heat on Friday. The Knights' 4x800 relay team of Fernholz, Abby Vankempen, Abby Peterson and Jen Froemming finished 16th on Saturday with a time of 10:35.09.
