B-E nine improves to 5-1
The Brandon-Evansville baseball team had 13 hits and committed just one error in a 9-4 win over Ortonville on Friday that moved this team to 5-1 on the season.
James Huisman started and went four innings, allowing four runs before Tom Bosek came in and shut the door the rest of the way. The Chargers got five runs in the third inning to take their first lead and they never let it go from there.
“We were able to get a quality performance from our defense and James Huisman and Tom Bosek gave us solid contributions on the mound,” head coach Brian Perleberg said. “Offensively, we had a balanced attack with eight different batters collecting hits, and we were able to put runners in scoring position in six of the seven innings.”Kevin Roers, Christian McGaffey, Jake Nohre, Kevin Campbell and Huisman all had two hits apiece to lead the way. McGaffey finished with two RBIs and two runs scored, while Campbell also added two RBIs and a run scored.“Without question, the middle of our batting order (Roers, McGaffey, Campbell) gave their best performance of the year thus far as they combined to go 6-for-12 with 6 RBIs,” said Perleberg. “Ortonville is always a difficult opponent for us as they are fundamentally sound and do not make many mistakes. To come away with a win today is a step in the right direction for our young team.”
