The Brandon-Evansville Legion baseball team improved to 10-2 with one of its best wins of the summer in beating Osakis 10-2 last Friday night.

Osakis was without talented shortstop Drew Fearing and outfielder Ky Zimmel, but Nolan Bartholomew still shut down a lineup with a lot of talent in a complete-game performance.

Bartholomew allowed just three hits to established players in Jordan Frederick, Lane Berberich and Doug Zimmel. Cody DeWenter also tripled, but that's all Osakis could get against Bartholomew, who walked just two and struck out six.

"After those top three guys for Osakis, he really just kind of went to work," B-E coach Trent Hintermeister said. "Nolan's flaw all year is he tends to walk way too many. On that night, only two walks and I kind of talked to him after the game and said, 'What was the difference between tonight and when you struggle?' He said, 'I didn't walk guys. It's easy to win when you don't' walk guys, isn't it?' This is probably the best game he's pitched all year."

His offense gave him a lot of run support from up and down the lineup. Zach Carlson was the catalyst with four hits, including a double and a triple to go along with two RBIs.

"He was pretty fantastic," Hintermeister said. "He was lights out. Both offensively and defensively, he played a really good game."

Carlson wasn't alone. Billie Juul went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Tom Bosek added two hits and drove in two, while Craig Campbell went 2-for-3 with an RBI.

"Lane had a real good first two innings," Osakis coach Gerry Hoelscher said. "Then in the top of the third, they started over again the second time through the lineup and hit him hard. Brandon is a good hitting team. They hit a lot of teams well."

It added up to what Hintermeister called probably his team's best game of the summer so far. It also set them up to play for the top seed in the district. Brandon-Evansville will host a doubleheader against Morris tomorrow night, Thursday, with the top seed on the line. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 6:30.
