The Brandon-Evansville softball team won the Pheasant Conference with six straight wins to end the regular season last week.

The Chargers cemented that league title in emphatic fashion, pounding out 20 hits in a 14-11 win over Wheaton-Herman-Norcross last Friday. That came in a doubleheader that saw them win game one 10-3 to help secure the title.

“The girls couldn’t deserve it more,” head coach Kasi Huschle said of the championship. “We battled through a number of different rallies by WHN. Offensively, we were able to provide freshman Lizzy Friedrich with the run support she needed to come away with the win. It’s a great feeling to end the regular season with a big sweep that put us on the top of the conference.”

The day was filled with offensive stars for Brandon-Evansville, especially in game two when 10 of the 20 hits went for extra bases. Emma Friedrich went 5-for-5 with a home run, two doubles, two RBIs and two runs scored to lead the way. Shyanna Behrens added three hits, including a double, with two runs and three RBIs. Carrigan Okerlund and Casie Stotesbery added three hits apiece as well.

“Every one of the girls came ready to play today and was willing to do whatever it took to win these games,” Huschle said.

Game one saw the Chargers use four WHN errors, nine walks and six hits to secure a 10-3 win. Emma Friedrich was again the catalyst, collecting two hits, including a triple, to go along with two runs and four RBIs. Michelle Lund added a hit and two RBIs, as well.

“We scored three runs in the first inning and carried that momentum throughout the rest of the game,” Huschle said. “Kinsley [Randt] threw well in the circle and continues to be a great leader for us…this was a huge game for us and the girls played hard and had fun, which is always great to see.”

Randt allowed just one earned run in picking up the win. The senior scattered nine hits but walked just one and struck out four.

The Chargers wrapped up the regular season with a 9-1 record in the Pheasant Conference and a 12-7 mark overall.
