B-E boys fall in double overtime
Hungry for its first win against a conference opponent this year, the Brandon-Evansville boys’ basketball team fought through two overtimes Friday against Underwood in Brandon.
But the Chargers were unable to come up with some much needed points in the second overtime period in a 51-46 loss.
Both Tom Bosek and Skyler Quinn led the Chargers with 11 points each, and Spencer Johnson led Underwood with 15.
“We thought we played very well on the defensive end,” head coach John Holsten said. “We contested shots for the most part. We were in good position, and I thought we rebounded well except for at the end when we could have used another couple defensive rebounds that we didn’t get.”
Both teams shot less than 40 percent on field goals. The game came down to the team that could hit the most shots in overtime, and Underwood was able to do that in the final minutes on Friday.
“We had pretty good defense,” Quinn said. “We did pretty well on offense, too. They were just better than us, I guess.”
Bosek was credited with hitting some key shots in the game, including two free throws to send the game into double overtime.
“I thought Tom was very good down the stretch. He made some good decisions,” he said. “He had a certain poise and savvy that we really needed.”
It was fun for Bosek to hit some big shots to help his team out.
“It felt pretty good having my teammates giving me a thumbs up and cheering me on,” he said. “It was a good feeling.”
The loss dropped the Chargers to 1-5 on the season, which includes two losses in the LEC. Holsten expects to see Underwood continue to improve throughout the season.
“This might be the best time to play them because they’re just going to get better and better,” he said.
The Chargers continued play against conference opponents this week with a game against Battle Lake on Tuesday, yesterday, in Battle Lake. The final game on the schedule in December for Brandon-Evansville is Thursday on the road in Ortonville.
