The Chargers played two games on Thursday, starting off the afternoon with a 4-1 victory over Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley and later dropping a 12-3 game to Breckenridge.

Starting pitcher Tom Bosek led B-E to the victory against CGB by allowing only one earned run through seven innings, allowing nine hits and one walk along with six strikeouts.

“CGB kept putting pressure on throughout this game, but our defense was able to answer the call and find ways to make plays behind Tom Bosek,” head coach Brian Perleberg said. “It was a gutty performance by Tom, considering he pitched four innings on Tuesday and was able to come out today and stay in control of this game on only two days of rest.”

Jake Nohre got the B-E scoring started in the third inning when he reached on an error to start the inning and later scored on a double by Tom Bosek. The run tied the game at 1-1.

The Chargers then took the lead for good in the fifth inning after scoring three runs on an error, an RBI groundout by Brandon Christianson and an RBI single by Zach Johnson. The inning set up a 4-1 lead that would stick for the remainder of the game.

The win set up another tournament game against Breckenridge.

BRECKENRIDGE 12, CHARGERS 3

The Chargers’ Thursday evening game was a different story as Breckenridge scored five runs in the second inning and six in the sixth to take a commanding lead.

Perleberg said the Chargers will need to regroup in practice before playing its next scheduled tournament game on Tuesday.

“Breckenridge played a really good game today and hit the ball with authority,” Perleberg said. “We had two bad innings that seemed to last forever and were created by our own miscues, which makes it burn even more.”

Breckenridge took control early with five unearned runs off B-E starter Brandon Christianson. Parker Busse then hit a solo home run in the third inning for a 6-0 Cowboys lead.

The Chargers added two runs in the bottom of the third, thanks to a Christian McGaffey single that plated Jake Nohre and James Huisman.

Cody Lund helped the Chargers pull within three runs of Breckenridge on an RBI double by Lund.

But Breckenridge scored six unearned runs on a two-out rally in the sixth inning to take charge of the game 12-3.

The Chargers were next scheduled to face Nevis at 2 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon on the Minnesota State Community and Technical College campus in Fergus Falls.
