Audrey Hovland, 76
Audrey Marilyn Hovland, 76, Alexandria, died Friday, February 21, 2014 at Bethany Nursing Home in Alexandria.
Audrey was born October 28, 1937 in Montevideo to Melvin C. and Hazel (Anderson) Halvorson. She was baptized and confirmed at Camp Release Lutheran Church in Stony Run Township and graduated from Montevideo High School in 1955. She attended Augsburg College in Minneapolis and earned her bachelors and masters degrees. She taught school in Osseo for several years.
On September 30, 1967 she was united in marriage to Darrell Hovland in Minneapolis. They lived and farmed near Minneota for a number of years before moving to Redwood Falls, where she worked at a nursing home. After a short while, they moved to Benson, where she subbed in Sunburg and taught GED classes until retiring in 2001.
While in Benson she was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and taught First Communion preparation. In 2003, they moved to Montevideo, where they lived until moving to Alexandria in 2010. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Montevideo and was a member of the National and Minnesota Education Associations. She enjoyed reading, crafts and needlework, doing crossword puzzles, being around children, and especially enjoyed being with her granddaughter.
She is survived by her husband, Darrell, of Alexandria; son, Jason Hovland and his wife Kim of Alexandria; granddaughter, Bailee, of Alexandria; brother, Gary Halvorson and his wife Donna of Wegdahl; sister-in-law, Marsha Halvorson of New Ulm; as well as a number of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Melvin C. and Hazel Halvorson; brother, Robert Halvorson; and a niece, Cindy Halvorson.
Memorial services were conducted Wednesday, February 26 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Montevideo.
