Auditions open for 'Willy Wonka'
The Alexandria Area Arts Association (AAAA) will hold open auditions for its upcoming fall family musical, Roald Dahl's Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, July 22-23 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the AAAA Theatre.
Willy Wonka is the story of a candy man and his quest to find an heir for his chocolate factory by hiding golden tickets in five of his candy bars. Whoever finds them will win a tour of the Wonka factory and a lifetime supply of candy. The winners must learn to follow Wonka's rules or suffer the consequences.
This musical features songs from the film starring Gene Wilder, including Pure Imagination and I've Got a Golden Ticket, as well as a chorus of Oompa-Loompas.
People only need to attend one evening of auditions. Those auditioning should prepare one minute of music to sing (an accompanist will be provided) and a one-minute monologue or story to read.
Willy Wonka has 12 adult roles and 20 youth roles. A complete list of parts and preparation can be found at alexandriaareaarts.org.
Auditions are open to the public, including all ages, skill levels and experience levels.
Willy Wonka will hit the AAAA stage September 20-29. The production is directed by Benjamin Klipfel, with music and vocal direction by Mark Graf and Rachel Capistrant.
