Auditions open for arts association's spring show "Black Comedy"
Auditions are = open for the Alexandria Area Arts Association’s (AAAA) spring comedy, Black Comedy by Peter Shaffer. Auditions will be held Monday and Tuesday, February 24 and 25 at 6:30 p.m. in the AAAA lobby.
Auditions involve reading from a script, so there is nothing to prepare. Those interested need only attend one evening of auditions. All are welcome to audition, regardless of past experience.
Black Comedy requires five males and three females. Roles include Brindsley Miller (age 20-40), Carol Melkett (age 20-35), Miss Furnival and Colonel Melkett (age 50+), Harold Gorringe (age 30-60), Clea (age 20-40), Franz Schuppanzigh and George Bamberger (age 40+). The production includes some accents and physical comedy.
Lovesick and desperate, sculptor Brindsley Miller has embellished his apartment with furniture and objects d’art “borrowed” from the absent antique collector next door. He’s hoping to impress his fiancée’s pompous father and a wealthy art dealer. But the fussy neighbor returns just as a blown fuse plunges the apartment into darkness.
Unexpected guests, aging spinsters, errant phone cords and other snares impede Miller’s frantic attempts to return the purloined items before light is restored.
