Auditions for next AAAA play set for January 20
Auditions for the spring Alexandria Area Arts Association (AAAA) Theatre's production have been set.
The auditions for The Trip to Bountiful will take place Tuesday, January 20 at 6:30 p.m. at the theater.
The performance dates for this play are March 27, 28 and 29 and April 3, 4 and 5. There parts for three women and five men and up to five extras. The ages range from late teens to late 70s.
The book, The Trip to Bountiful, was written for television in 1953 by Horton Foote.
It opened on Broadway that same year and was later made into an Academy Award winning film - it won for best actress and it was also nominated for Best Writing Screenplay, based on material from another medium.
Locally, the play will be directed by Sharon Thalmann and produced by Jamie Sandberg.
Here is a brief synopsis of the play:
Nearing the end of her life, Mrs. Carrie Watts lives with her son and daughter-in-law in their three-room Houston apartment.
Watts is determined to outwit her bossy daughter-in-law in order to make one last visit to her childhood home in the small town of Bountiful, Texas, which she left three decades ago.
Watts boards a bus to a town near her childhood home, befriending a woman traveling alone and other kindly strangers.
With the help of a police officer, Watts completes the poignant, heartbreaking and ultimately, life-affirming journey.
