Auditions are today for 'Teens in the Spotlight'
Hey teens, the Alexandria Area Arts Association (AAAA) Theatre needs you!
Auditions for the second annual "Teens in the Spotlight" have been set, and will take place Saturday, January 3 from 3 to 6 p.m. at the theater.
According to one of the organizers, Quincy Roers, the Teens in the Spotlight event is a talent show featuring area youth from the ages of 10 to 19.
It is open to any talent at any ability level, said Roers, who explained that the purpose of the show is to raise money for local school arts programs.
"To participate in plays at school," said Roers, "students are expected to pay an activity fee and this event is the AAAA's way of raising money to help underwrite some of those expenses."
Tickets are $10 per person, but Roers said the AAAA is "accepting free-will donations at any time for anyone who is interested in supporting the future artists of this area."
For this year's show, which has been set for January 24 at 7:30 p.m., Roers said he is hoping to have anywhere from 15 to 20 different acts.
The show will be emceed by Tom E. Lee of Z99-Radio and Steve Deitz, who is the choral director at Jefferson High School.
During last year's event, there were 12 "very talented kids" who performed, including dancers, singers, piano players, guitar players and a drummer, said Roers.
He noted that after the event last year, one of the performers - Kalee Guenther, a 9th grader at Discovery Middle School - got the opportunity to go into a local radio station and record one of her songs. The song is titled Bring Me to My Knees.
"I have personally heard it play on Z99-Radio multiple times," said Roers.
Tickets for the show can be purchased at the door or in advance by calling the AAAA Theatre at (320) 762-8300. Box office hours are Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
For those who cannot attend the show, want to donate to the scholarship fund, send a check to the theater, earmarked for the fund, to AAAA Theatre, 618 Broadway, Alexandria, MN 56308.
