ATCC Foundation sets memories in stone
The Alexandria Technical and Community College Foundation opted for a change in scenery this year for its annual luncheon held in Alexandria last Friday afternoon.
Attendees cruised over to the Law Enforcement tactical warehouse on campus for a main street themed gathering. The warehouse was transformed into a small city. This year's motto was: a community within a community.
"We've never had a space on campus before," said Foundation Executive Director Kathy Pfeffer Nohre. "It's so important for the community to see and hear what we do here."
Kevin Kopischke, Alexandria Technical and Community College (ATCC) president, spoke to the group about challenges the college faces. Student presentations were also part of the luncheon's line-up.
In years past, foundation members and guests ventured out to Arrowwood Resort and Conference Center for the event. Arrowwood catered on campus for the 11th annual luncheon attended by more than 300 foundation and community members.
"We had a large turnout this year," Pfeffer Nohre said.
The Foundation has introduced a new fundraiser to cultivate program and scholarship support.
"Paving the Way" is a community involvement project taking place literally on Foundation Hall's patio and walkway outside the Welcome Center located on the corner of Jefferson Street and 17th Avenue.
"These items [pavers engraved with names of ATCC graduates] are going to be here for an eternity."
Kathy Pfeffer Nohre
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, ATCC FOUNDATION
Pavers can be engraved with a graduate's name, used as an in memoriam or include special occasion information. Options range from a 6-by-9-inch brick for $250 up to bench engravings for $2,500. Pfeffer Nohre said all the big furniture items have been sold but bench capstones are still available.
"These items are going to be here for an eternity," Pfeffer Nohre said.
Fixtures can be seen on the patio, which will be used for student and foundation events. Funds paid for the pavers, or donor bricks, are tax deductible and have the option of including the ATCC logo. For more information, visit www.alextech.edu or call (320) 762-4670.
