Ashby upsets Clinton-GB in 6A opener

The Ashby girls got a 55-34 win over Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley in the opening round of the 6A South playoffs on Monday night.

The Arrows went on the road to do it as they came in with the 10th seed and CGB was seeded seventh. Ashby set the tone early, though, and never looked back

“When our ladies play as a unit, good things happen,” head coach Troy Mickelson said. “For the game we had 23 assists and seven turnovers, which helped us tremendously on the offensive end.  As a team, we also shot 86 percent from the free throw line (12-of-14).”

Amber Sundal led the way with 13 points, five rebounds and five assists. Abbi Ras added 13 points and seven rebounds, while Madison VanSanten and Cassandra Jordan each had 12 points apiece. Becca Hansen and Paige Nelson rounded out the Arrows’ scoring with three and two points, respectively.

Ashby was scheduled to play second-seeded Henning last night, Thursday, in the subsection quarterfinals.
