Top-seeded Ashby made easy work of Eagle Valley in an 11-1 win during the opening round of the Section 6A-South playoffs on Tuesday night.
The Arrows scored in every inning to pull away from an Eagle Valley team that it beat in the regular-season finale. Madison VanSanten went 2-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and two RBIs, while Jeannette Evavold added two hits, including a double, to go along with two runs and an RBI.
That made things easier on Paige Nelson, who got the win from the circle. She went all five innings, scattering five hits and striking out three. The defense also played error-free behind her, which included a diving stop by Evavold at third before she threw a runner out from her knees.
"It was fun to watch the Arrows softball team today," head coach Kandace Norby said. "They take great pride in their defense and heads-up plays. Each player for the Arrows contributes in some way to help their team. The girls had fun playing ball today and will continue to play their best in the playoffs."
The win moved the Arrows into the double-elimination format of the tournament. They were set to play Bertha-Hewitt-Verndale last night, Thursday, during the section semifinals in Alexandria.
