Ashby baseball returns solid nucleus

The Ashby baseball team returns five players who played a significant role on a 7-8 team from a year ago.

Gage Olson (C), Reed Hanson (Utility/P), Blake Ohren (IF/P), Morgan Wing (OF) and Zach Barry (IF) will all be looked upon to lead the way for this group. Olson, Hanson, Ohren and Wing are all seniors, while Barry is entering his junior season. Sophomore Miles Wing will also be asked to step into an expanded role this season.

The Arrows have to make up for the loss of three key players from last year in Tanner Langlie, Dylan Barry and Allard LaRue. Langlie is now a freshman playing at Minnesota State University-Moorhead.

“We lost a couple key players and pitchers and are trying to find some players to fill those spots due to graduation,” first-year head coach Chad Akerson said.

The Arrows will compete in the Pheasant Conference this season and the Section 6A field. Akerson views Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley and Wheaton-Herman-Norcross as the teams to beat in both conference and section play.
