Arvig donation leads funding for new community pool
The West Central Initiative/Parkers Prairie Swimming Pool Fund announced Arvig’s partnership and donation to help rebuild the community swimming pool. The local telecommunication company gave $250,000 toward the project.
“The question that sparked this project was: ‘What would summer be without the community pool?’” said Jim Arvidson, chairman of the WCI/Parkers Prairie Swimming Pool Fund. “Because of generous donors like Arvig, we will never have to worry about that.”
The current pool, built in 1977 and located in the city park, is beginning to fail and no longer complies with government regulations.
The goal is to replace the existing structure with an up-to-date aquatic facility that will appeal to the young, the old, physically able and disabled, and veterans, offering an outdoor alternative to stay active and healthy.Besides regular swimming lessons and water aerobics programs, classes and camps like Tiny Tots, Snorkeling Camp Jr., group rentals and Intro to Scuba Diving are possibilities.Construction of the new aquatic facility could start as early as the fall of 2014. The WCI/Parkers Prairie Swimming Pool Fund is in the process of developing a website dedicated to the project, along with a Facebook page for social updates. To donate to the West Central Initiative/Parkers Prairie Swimming Pool Fund, visit www.wcif.org or send a check to PO Box 98, Parkers Prairie, MN 56361.
